The Wholesalers play the same game every year with their PREBOOKED VD DAY Rose prices.
That PREBOOK price of $1.65 for 50C is TOO HIGH!
And, we've all laughed about their usual ONCE UPON A TIME story as the WHY THE ROSE PRICES are so high THIS TIME AROUND. (enter any year)
1. A Volcano blew up in either Equador or Columbia. 2. One of the two cargo planes which fly those flowers to Miami went down. 3. US Customs impounded a MILLION ROSES at Miami due to DRUGS or BUGS. 4. There was a HURRICANE in Columbia or Equador. 5. There was a FREEZE in Columbia or Equador. 6. There was a HEAT WAVE in Columbia or Equador. 7. There was a COUP in Columbia or Equador.
I think most of us have heard them all over the years of playing the VD DAY ROSE MARKET GAME.
Bottom line has always been that, this commodity is governed by the rules of SUPPLY and DEMAND.
And so, the PREBOOK PRICES will be HIGH until the DEMAND DROPS and then, the REAL PRICES will start to surface from the farms and brokers who keep em up there for as long as possible.
I think we all remember that Miami Wholesaler who HOOD WINKED many FTD FLORISTS by sending out a slimcast message back in 1996?
He had a FAIR MARKET PRICE for their VD WEEK prebooked roses, which required PREPAYMENT.
After which, he tried to PLAY THE MIAMI MARKET till the last possible moment hoping that, the prices would bottom out at the end so that, they could buy em up for next to nothing while filling the orders for the prebook and making a killing on the spread.
Only problem was that, when the market finally bottomed out, it was TOO LATE for them to SHIP and FILL all the orders they got paid for.
Eventually, the Florida States' Attorney General caught up with the SCAMMERS and the rest is history.
Anyway, continue to shop around for a FAIR MARKET PRICE on whatever variety and brand you prefer. Personally, I think your price for a 50C should be around $1.25 in your door with 60C at $1.50, and 70C at $1.75.
